On the Ethernet adapter Wan .2:
Change the DNS Primary from 127.0.0.1 to a public DNS server such as you ISP's or 4.2.2.2...actually there are many to choose from.

You'll get better internet response instead of looping back internal and then going out to resolve the internet Address.

And remove the WINS entry on both networks. Not sure why your WINS is pointing to the WAN network. If needed, then have WINS on the internal server only and configure LAN for that internal IP. The WAN does not need WINS.

What is handing out the DHCP addresses if it is not this server? DHCP is enabled on the client side so something is assigning it within the correct range. If the above DNS change doesnt rectify the situation, I would look along the DHCP path and see what is handing them out.

If you are still experiencing issues, run a static IP on one of the workstations outside of the current used ones, if most of the users are .5-.30 go with something .200 and above since you are on a /24 subnet you have the hole range which is acceptable. Im assuming this is your AD/DNS server with another DHCP?

So if the server is domain joined, then its DNS settings on the NICs should point to an internal DNS server or you'll run into other issues. If it has a local copy of your internal DNS zone, then pointing it to itself would be fine. But you'd want to configure forwarders to go to several well connected DNS servers online. TechyMcSe2k mentions one I often use.

I wouldn't configure the NICs on the server to point to external addresses. That doesn't help the clients. That's only for the server.

When users lose connectivity to the Internet, can you still ping domains by name?

Thanks so much to all of you for responding and your advice as for you 58sniper in what you said:

So if the server is domain joined, then its DNS settings on the NICs should point to an internal DNS server or you'll run into other issues. Right I need to rectify this correct? how do you suggest...

Thanks again for your time and help

If the server is domain joined, and is an Active Directory based DNS server, then the NICs should point to it's primary IP address for the primary DNS setting, and to another internal DNS server for the secondary.

For configuring forwarders, see
If you can ping via name while they can't get to the Internet, DNS isn't the problem.

58sniper the .25 subnet is the lan and the .2 is the wan a so call dmz zone the computers on the .2 subnet only have access to the internet...they are not part of the domain so should I still change the configs. like you instruct???
also fyi when the internet goes down I restart the RAS and usually the internet comes back up....sometimes I have to restart the server....the ras is not used for remote access any more..I would like to disable it...but not sure what to do...

thanks again for your time and help
