My company uses a proxy server loaded with windows 2000 server.
Ran fine last thursday when i left, today it will not start up.
It gets as far as the "Windows is starting up" box, and then displays a box claiming that the application error log is full. This would be fine, but I have no mouse or keyboard control at that point to hit the ok button with.
I do not know if this is caused by this new virus that is running around attacking servers, but we are not running SQL, and all bits of info on the virus say that it attacks servers running SQL.
I have attempted the following:
Starting in safe mode
Starting with a command prompt
Slaving the drive to another computer (won't work, i am guessing because the server is RAID)
Restoring to last known good config.

Any ideas out there? Help is appreciated,
Eric

Perhaps it would be good to restore it from your backups! This is, if you have any...

I would guess you have been hacked. I dont use win2k for proxy or ISA, too easy to attack. Get an appliance like watchgaurd, netscreen, sonicwall, nexland and save yourself alot of hassle. Doomhamur

Ok, verdict is in...........
IBM Deskstar hard drives.
Striped raid, one HD lost sectors = server won't run.
That particular type of HD has a proven track record of being a piece of crap around here.
About 50 computers from IBM with the drive, and about 50% of them have lost the HD so far. IBM knows it's a faulty HD and has extended our warrantys to cover any that go bad.
Thanks for the input.
