I have a DNS server running Linux. It is our internal DNS server. When we changed our IP on our website, it's still bringing up the old IP and if you're on this DNS server, you can't get to our current webpage. I have a backup (NT) server that did update properly. How do I force an update or change this mistake in the Linux DNS servre?

Change your web server's 'A record' on your DNS server to resolve to the new IP. Your zone file is probably located in /var/named

I tried both kill named and ndc restart and neither command could be found. I found in /var/named the IP address where the old website was located. I changed this to the new IP address, but when pinging the website from a computer using this DNS server, it still comes up with the old IP. Not sure where else to change this.

You need to refresh the cache on the client. If this is a Win2K client, try "ipconfig /flushdns". If its a Linux client, try "service network restart".

..or, of course, you can just reboot the client.

..by the way, this is fluid11. I'm sitting at another computer and forgot to logoff again.

I rebooted, still having the same problem. Is there any GUI that I can start that might be better for this? I edited the /var/named MYDOMAIN.db file to show the new IP in the Is this where I should have made the change or somewhere else?

Thats should be the place. Was the host record (A record) incorrect? Try restarting the named service on the Linux server.

/sbin/service named restart

I have it working now. I had to go to the Mydomain.db and change the A file in there. Then I did the service named restart and it works now. Thank you for all your help!!

may I know where to locate domain.db? Is it the same file as "A record" file in /var/named?
