We have a Netware 5.0 server. I continually set the time at the console using the set time command. The next day I notice the time has jumped ahead 20 or so minutes. How do I stop this?

Thanks so much,
Diane

Check to make sure the battery is good on the server itself. If this starts going dead, the server could start losing time or gaining depending on how busy the server is. Second Is this a standalone server or are there other Novell servers on your network? Novell has a TID for timesync configuration(s) you should check it out and verify the correctness of your environment.

Since youa re running netware 5, I would recommend that you consider NTP time (internet time protocol) as this is an industry standard and convert your Novell environment away from the traditional timesync.nlm

I work with NT servers, NDS for NT as well.

I run Timesync.nlm on my NW 5.0 servers. Later versions of timesync support the NTP protocol and can be synced to master clocks on the Internet for accuracy (assuming you can ping the internet from thr server). Search the Internet for NTP and you should find a local site with a master clock. I use the US Naval Observatory in Washington D. C. and the University of MD. as my time source. Works great.

Is this server the only one on the network, if not is it set as a secondary time server, what im asking is, is the server getting its time from another on the network if so it will change its time to match that one.

I had had similiar problems with ideata.ham in the startup.ncf.
If you have and do not use the ide-driver rem them in the startup.ncf or look for the newer version at Novells homepage.

Update your Novell Server with this patch OS5PT2A.EXE Updated SERVER.EXE with the timer fix which addresses a timesync drift issue. This should be run with newer IDEATA.HAM driver also included with this patch.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Install the current NetWare Support Pack (NW51SP2A.EXE or NW50SP6A.EXE)
The server may not boot properly if the current Support Pack is not installed
prior to this patch.

You may use either NWCONFIG or Manual Copy option to install this patch.

NWCONFIG
1. Load NWCONFIG | Product Options | Install a product no listed |
2. Choose F3 to specify a different path and point path to the os_inst.ips file
in the patch root directory.
3. Select F10 to accept SERVER.EXE update.
4. When patch is complete, you will need to down and restart your server for
changes to take effect. Do not use the 'restart server' command. You will
need to use DOWN or RESET SERVER.
