We are in the process of identifying the server needs of JDE
We would appreciate any help in sizing the server for
30 concurrent User or 60 Named user
We have Digital Unix + ORACLE. Can the same be used? or do we need to select any other flavour of unix

Each of the supported platform hardware vendors has a 'competency' center located within JDE to do sizing. Many hardware companies do sizing and are OK at it. The problem is Hardware Companies want to push boxes, and Hardware vendors/resellers don't know JDE and take the Hardware vendors word for what a client needs. 70-90% of the sizings I've reviewed are just dead wrong. Current Platforms that support Oracle DB are Intel, Sun, HPUX, and AIX on an RS6000. There are a lot of factors that determine sizing and a lot of questions that go into Architecture design for Xe. I am not familiar with Digital and Oracle is not a super popular platform for JDE due to the cost of ownership and maintence. I've seen a trend to move away from the Unix/Oracle platform because finding resources with the proper skills to do it and do it right within the JDE Market is very hard. I have worked on Many Intel/Oracle and Sun/Oracle shops and there is a lot that goes into it.
# of users, types of transactions, volume of transactions, # of locations, Fat Clients vs. Thin, application servers, bandwidth, modules being installed, etc.
If you are deadset on Oracle, I will lay out a table so you at least know the disk configuation you should consider on the Enterprise Server.

Area SCSI Channel # Of Disks Redundancy Files
1 SCSI Channel - 1 2 Mirrored Oracle executable and user area, a control file, System tables and Redo logs
2 SCSI Channel - 2 3 (Minimum) RAID 5 Data files, a control file and Redo logs
3 SCSI Channel – 3 2 Mirrored Index files, a control file and Redo Logs
4 SCSI Channel - 4 2 Mirrored Rollback Segments
5 SCSI Channel - 4 1 (Minimum) None – can be Mirrored Archive log files
6 SCSI Channel - 4 1 (Minimum) None – can be Mirrored Backup Staging and Export file

Area 1 Oracle executable and user area, a control file, System tables and Redo logs
Area 2: Data files, a control file and Redo logs
Area 3: Index files, a control file and Redo Logs
Area 4 Rollback Segments
Area 5 Archive log files
Area 6 Backup Staging and Export file

I hope this helps. I will be more than happy to talk to you in person, I ran the CNC practice for a JDE BP for a few years and worked extensively in sizing by reviewing the all the factors I mentioned before.

Have a great day
