Hello,
I am going to open up a VOIP website where I am expecting around 100 users to be active on the sie. My website will also include a gallery, a downloads page and a Study partner finder. Now I started to think, will my server handle that?

I have Windows server 2003 with 400GB harddrive, Pentium 4 CPU 2.80Ghz and ram 504MB.. Internet connection 1.5 MBPS.. Is that good enough? If not, what is not good? what can I do to improve it?

Thanks!
This forum ROCKS!

What do you mean by a VoIP website? The gallery, number of users etc. will be no problem for the spec - but the bandwidth concerns me. (RAM could do with a boost though!)

Also, what connection have you got for the server? Is it a leased line, ADSL, SDSL, Cable etc...

Steve.

Hello Steve, thanks for responding

By VoIP I mean I have voice chatrooms, classroom type of voice chat so people could ask questions and answer. I have SBCGLOBAL DSL Leased T1 1.5MBPS.

Thanks again

To be honest, I would look at increasing the bandwidth. I work in IT for a call centre that we've just setup and whilst it's only 50 seats (at the moment) I wouldn't run it on 10Mbps. It's VoIP with QoS over 100Mbps (1Gbps backbone on the server / VoIP switch) which should do us proud for a good couple of hundred of users.

Also, (guessing your in the US) I'm assuming that your leased line has the same speed upstrream as it does down? If not then I would get it changed ASAP.

The server spec shouldn't be too bad, although the RAM could do with a boost. More than 100 con-current users then I would look at a 2Gb / 2.8 Xeon with RAID. Not sure on what web services / apps you'll be running but may want to make sure that there is some quota on what can be uploaded. With logs and all those pictures you'll be suprised how fast 400Gb can be eaten up! :)

Needless to say, latest SP's and updates applied!!!

Hope this helps!!!
