I have the following error with brightstor 11.5:
Server **** failed to authenticate the user caroot (EC=-1)
We have changed the server name recently, i think this is the cause.
Any suggestions?
on the BAB server
1. run CSTOP.bat
2. rename the BAB DOmain name folder under
<X:>\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\data\discovery\<folder of the BAB domain>. By defualt this folder would have the name of the machine..
3.run CSTART
Make sure the ARCserve system account has all correct permissions and security.
Check whether the following services are running
1) CA Remote Procedure Call Service
2) BrightStor AB Service Controller Service
3) BrightStor AB Domain Server Service
All the three services should be running for the caroot to
authenticate with the BAB Server, Even if one of the services is not running, please use cstop from the command prompt to stop all BAB services and run cstart to start all services back.
Ping the machine by name. For example, ping.exe BAB_MACHINE.
If this does not work, resolve the name to an IP address by changing the etc/hosts file or on the DNS.
Make sure a process called caauthd.exe is running in the task manager - processes.
On the command prompt under Brightstor ARCServe Backup Folder :
- Type ca_auth -user getall
Username should come up as : CAROOT
- ca_auth -user chgpasswd CAROOT newpassword
- Then type ca_auth -user validate caroot
Type password and see if you get OK.
