We have recently been having problems with our server. It is a Windows 2000 machine. Nothing has been changed recently. (No settings, no hardware, no software, etc.) Last weekend we shut it down because the power was going to be turned off for an unspecified amount of time. We have a UPS connected to it, but we weren't sure if the power would be off longer than the battery life, so we shut it down. Every morning this week when I come in I find that it is either logging out or rebooting by itself. We have run a full scan for viruses and nothing turned up. Also, it seems to be rebooting sometime when we are not here (late evening, night) as there were events in the event log until 11:21 pm last night. This is a big problem because it is causing the daily backups not to complete. I thought we should uncheck "Automatically Restart" under "Startup and Recovery", but my boss doesn't think that's the solution. Any ideas? There are no other signs of anything being wrong. Any ideas?

Have you solved this problem yet?
I suggest that you reload WINDOWS 2000 back on the server. make sure you are able to get a good backup BEFORE attempting this. I had a similar problem with my server, and this fixed the problem.

Reloading it may take some time, so you may want to do this after hours maybe?

You shoule post this in the windows 2000 server area so the server experts can all see it to help : > )
