If you get this message, when trying to add a machine to a domain, or can't connect to a domain when trying to use ADMT, quick fix....

at a command prompt on the DC:

net start IPC$
net start ADMIN$

This fixed the problem for me, not sure it the DC holds the setting when rebooted, could not test it, but then you'll know the fix.

Thanx,

WOW! I was just about to post for the first time about that very error message when I read your post! I get this message when trying to access my stand-alone server from a terminal.

I have a VERY simple network: a dell server and a dell desktop connected to a switch which is in turn connected to a DSL server. the two computers are both members of the workgroup. The drives on both computers are shared.

I can access the terminal from the server with no problem, but when i try to access the server from the terminal I get this message....

What causes this? I've been racking my brain thinking that something is configured wrong...is it?

By the "DC" you mean the...domain controller? I'd like to try that fix tommorrow. I just don't know what else to do.

Hey both of you!
I have the same problem, the Shares wont load at startup.. tried manually adding the keys to the registry and with POLEDIT opened the registry... - still not working!

do you have a solution yet? (I dont mean to do a Batch file that does that for me)

thanks!

See my thread if you didn't get it yet.

quoted from Missing IPC$

Symptoms: 1) you keep getting "The server is not configured for transactions" message when accessing a server. 2) you may use "net share IPC$" command on the server to fixe the problem but IPC$ will miss again whenever rebooting the server.

Possible reason: If the server has the following directory \winnt\system32\drivers\media, the server may have the virus called TROJ_IRCFLOOD.DR. To fix it, delete winsys32.exe from \windows\system or winnt\system32 and delete \winnt\system32\winsys32.exe and \windows\system\winsys32.exe from the following reg key HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\run\. Or run an anti-virus software to clean it.

I'm very sure that your pc infected by worm virus that called "w32.gaobot" Try searched news from Symantec Site about that virus. That I'm Doing on my DC --->
Follow This Step :
1. Update your engine Norton (If you using Norton antivirus)
2. Update security patch from microsoft site
3. Open Registry (Regedit) HKeyLocalMachine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run
Check What kind of *.exe Application will be added.
Ex:(winmon.exe)
4. Ctrl+alt+del Task manager--Procesess--Endtask winmon.exe
5. Search winmon.exe (Usually c://winnt/system32) then Deleted Permanent from yor disk
6. open regedit again...delete winmon.exe all of your registry windows.

Reboot your pc.

Thnks
