Server lost connection during backup using Networker 7.2

I have two servers which currently resides in the DMZ. My Networker Server is in the internal LAN. For some reason, I'm not able to run a successful backup of the root directory(/) of both server1 and server2. I get a message saying server1: / -- 3 retries attempted. I then ran the backup of root from the command line by saying:

save -v -s networker_server_name -D 9 -b Group_Name / > file.log

The backup runs then I get an error saying Server Lost Connection. I'm not sure why this is happening. Please advise.

I do not know whether this is a proper command. "-b" should be used to define a pool, not a group.

My bad, I meant Pool and not Group. Please note that I have 2 other directories on server1 namely /sys and /backup and both of these directories get backed up successfully except for the / directory. The command I mentioned above worked one time only.

So i assume this is not a backup problem but it simply has to do with access rights which cause the process to timeout. It sounds weird but could it be that this is the issue?

I also suspect some kind of timeout issue. I'm not sure if it's a permission problem since the backup works 1 out 10 times of the root directory. Like I mentioned earlier, /sys and /backup gets backed up successfully except for /

I'm not sure if this has something to do with the network since the client is on the DMZ and the Networker server is in the internal LAN. But since it backs up the rest of the directories on the client, it makes me really confused.

Which oparating is your client ?
If its HP-UX try to exclude /dev/pty and /dev/tty directories using a directive.

I just wanted to add this additional information. I checked the log and it seems like it chokes on /sbin directory. Below is the log:

fedora is officially not supportet.
Try to excliude the sbin directory ist ut works have a closer look to the access rights.

To exclude /sbin directory, I created a directive. Somehow, it's still trying to backup the /sbin directory. Below is what I added:

+skip: *

Is this correct?

Looks weird. And the first one is definitively wrong.
The second one is o.k. - you could also use

<< /sbin >>
+skip: .

or

<< /sbin >>
+skip: . .?*
