Found this thread which clarifies how to re-install one-x portal on server edition (Need to reset admin password) but you don't appear to be able to remove one-x portal in 9.1 as it complains of other applications needing it (web colaboration and primary server)?

Don't want to start remove alsorts. Is there a less brutal way of re-installing one-x portal on SE?

Had the same problem with Application Server. 9.1 wouldn't allow uninstalling like you mentioned. You can only upgrade.
I worked with Avaya on this and all they could come up with is re-installation of the whole server. If that's not an option for you then see what you can do to hold out until SP 6 is released at then end of the month. Then just upgrade.

Why not just used referred authentication and then the administrator name and passwords are those of any IP Office service user configured for portal admin access (by default the IP Office 'Administrator').

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Do you need to enable referred administration somewhere? I've tried logging into one-x with username and password I open the config with...

If its a system that's been upgraded from pre-9.0 then yes, you need to enable referred authentication (post 9.0 installs have it enabled by default). It will also affect Voicemail Pro admin access. Go into web management and then platform view and you'll find it somewhere in the Settings options.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

I'm pretty sure it was originally on v8, but in the preferences "Service User / System Password Synchronization", which i believe you refer to, is enabled but greyed out anyway. The username/password I use to login to manager/web manager definately isnt working in one-x :(

??? I didn't once use the words "Service User / System Password Synchronization" !!!

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

But I can't find "referred authentication" anywhere? Cant even find "Platform", as it is server edition and I only have "Solution", "Call Management", "System Settings", "Security Manager", and "Applications" menus...

Ah, we're talking port 7071 rather than 7070, gotcha ;) Still no platform menu but I have found referred authentication. Thanks, but its already enabled.....

Interestingly, before finding referred authentication I was able to get into the one-x portal settings without signing in; by going to "applications", "one-x portal" and then "view in new tab", via the 7070 page. This took me to the one-x admin pages. I'm guessing I should be able to log in via port 8080 though, where it just reports my credentials are wrong.

Then found the external tab in security settings where I enabled One-X portal administrator for the Administrator group, but even after restarting server I cannot login to one-x with any known credentials..

If you want to reset local Administrator password of one-X Portal Admin, then it can be done by connecting to the system as root via ssh and executing following commands:
[pre]
cd /opt/Avaya/oneXportal/*/scripts
./resetadmin.sh resetpassword <superuser/admin>
[/pre]

To use local Administrator password, you need to disable Referred Authentication from WebControl application which runs at 7071 port on Linux based one-X Portal deployments (Server Edition, Application Server, UCM).

On Windows, execute:
[pre]C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\onexportal\ResetAdmin.bat resetpassword <superuser/admin>
[/pre]

Thanks nitinbh, though I have tried logging in as root via SSH but I keep getting access denied! I've tried using all password I would have used but none being accepted.

Usually root via SSH is blocked, you'll need to login with another user and then elevate to root.

If you wanna login as root you'll need to connect screen and keyboard to the server.

Thanks janni78, though I have been able to elevate it to root from a PC on the network by using "admin" option, then "root".

Command cd /opt/Avaya/oneXportal/*/scripts is ok,

but ./resetadmin.sh resetpassword <superuser/admin> gives error -bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'

I suspect it should be

./resetadmin.sh resetpassword admin

if you wanna reset the admin password

Disable referred authentication from WebControl application which runs on HTTPS port 7070. It should be somewhere in System-> settings or general tab.
After doing this, open SSH to the system. Check the documentation for accessing as root.

then
cd /opt/Avaya/oneXportal/*/scripts
# Use following command to reset local Admin password of One-X Portal.
./resetadmin.sh resetpassword admin

This will set the Local Administrator password of One-X Portal to default (i.e. Administrator).

Once you login to one-X Portal Admin, the password needs to be changed. This will be your new Local Administrator password.
The Local Administrator password of one-X is used to access the One-X Portal Admin ONLY if referred authentication is disabled.

If you have lost your Service User password, then I don't know how that can be reinstated.

I managed to uninstall and reinstall One-X portal on Application Server just now by;
1. Browsing to the application manager web page https:<ip address>:7071
2. Stop the One-X Portal Service
3. Click the 'Updates' tab
4. Uninstall the Web Collaboration
5. Uninstall the One-X Portal Service
6. Install the One-X Portal Server
7. Install the Web Collaboration Service
8. Start the One-X Portal Service in the System tab
9. Browse to https:<ip address>:9443/onexportal-admin.html
10. Log in and re-initialize One-X

Congratulations!

In my opinion, you could have saved hours if you could follow my instructions to recover the local administrator password. Also, if you could login to Web Control (at 7070), then it should be possible to login to one-X portal admin using the same credentials - unless there is some issue and in this case, it makes sense to reinstall.
