Hello,
Recently, one of my remote secondary servers has been loosing communications with my primary servers, in another location, for an indefinite amount of time, then picks communications back up after a while. This happens off and on. My server has SP5 on it and I ran DSREPAIR to syncronize the time, but if there is no communication with the other severs this won't run correctly. The problem seems to go way when I enter the following commands:

Set dstrace=*a
Set dstrace=*u

However, the server still manages to drop the connection. My second recourse was to enter these commands at the console and enter them into the autoexec.ncf:

SET DSTRACE=!W60
SET DSTRACE=!x8
SET DSTRACE=!y6
SET DSTRACE=!z12

But after a short period of time, this ends up failing as well. I have checked my NIC, cables, hubs, and firewall. These all seem to be working fine. I am approaching my wit's end, so any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Is it the WAN link dropping and reconnecting? -----------------------------------------------------

No, I don't think so. I am getting a connection light on both my router and firewall, even when the server drops the connection.

I'm with Lad. Look to the WAN link. Get the provider to look at it, and even monitor it for a while.

Okay, will do. I'll keep you posted.

Tests to do:

a) Get a PC/another server at the problem server's end and do a constant ping test to see if packets drop locally

b) Do the same at your end

c) Compare results - hopefully this will help to determine where the problem lies. -----------------------------------------------------
