Hi

If I try and open an Access 2007 database from a client machine, it stops responding and the server hangs. I can Ctrl, Alt & Del but when I click task manager, it doesn't open...

The server then needs to be restarted...

I can open any other file type with no problems and copy files to and from the server. I only have a problem if I open a database...

Any ideas..?

Thanks

Luke

So you open a Access 2007 on a client machine then open a database file located on the server, and the server hangs?
Have you tried this on another machine?

Thanks for reply..!

If I got to a shared folder on any client machine, and navigate to the folder that contains the .mdb file, I double click it and then get the problem...

I also get the problem if I open trough Access or have Access open when I double click the .mdb

if you copy the file to the machine in question, does the problem still exist?
Does it happen on other PC's?
Is SP1 installed for Office 2007?
have you tried unc path e.g. \\server\share\file.mdb

If I copy the file to the machine it runs fine...

It happens on all the PCs...

I can't see how to check that SP1 for Office is installed, so will have a closer look at that now...

I have tried running the path and get the same error...

Don't know if this helps, but When I just browsed to the mdb location there was an .ldb of 0 bytes. This should be greater than that I think...

Thanks

I'm not running Access 2007 but for Word and excel
Click the Office Button [Top Left]
Options -> resources -> about should display your version SP1.
It's sounds strange that the server would crash as it's running on the local machine.
Is there a permission issue.
Doesn't sound like it's a 2007 access database

The ldb file is the record lock file for the database (but not in Access 2007, should be .laccdb, is it definatley 2007??), if this is still there when no one has the database open it could be part of your problem as it should delete itself when the last person closes it normally . . . I believe (but don't quote me on this) if the database is open but no one has any records open (and locked) then the lock file will be 0kb.

I don't know what the minimum permissions need to be on the folder with the database in it but it may be worth checking this is as it should be so that the lock files can be created and removed as required.

Are you trying to access a database in a older version of access but with 2007?

Hi Adrian

I think it is a 2003 database that I am trying to open with 2007 Access...

I will check what you said about permissions, but I have set 2 users to full control and they are both having trouble...

This is driving me crazy...

Thanks :D
