ok need some help,

a client had some "issues" with their 2003 sbs server only about 2 weeks old..problems:

1.. no antivirus
2.. over 300 trojan horse generic rtw instances were found on server using AVG

upon removing the viri and restarting the server it appears to boot fine ..then it asks for authentication, once you give it administrator name and password, it just sits there, it isnt logging on the desktop, services run, but very few programs can be started with task manager..

attempted a full tape restore, stayed logged in as long as possible, did AV scan again removed the viri again, ran SFC, upon rebooting, same symptons are happening, no icons, no taskbar, no desktop, yet services run, dns, dhcp, their touchstone program, and sql server is running, but cant log in to machine

anyone tell me what services need to run to enable the desktop?? or a way to fix this?

and remote desktop connections do the same, soon as you give it credentials, the username and password box go away and the server just sits there

If you use the adminpak and create another admin user, can you log in as THAT user? I'm wondering if the profile is hosed.

created a user myself, and attempted logging in and same result, gave my account full admin rights, domain, schema, all the bells and whistles...yet still same thing :(

have access to most services via new task in task manager, even mmc ...but nothing is working..gonna try just reinstalling sbs sp1 and see if that works, have my doubts, but at this point i have no other options
