I am running a small domain, 1 server 32 clients. The server is a one stop setup (Domain controller, DHCP, and DNS). System crashed, reloaded got it back online. Connected client and then went to login in using user account and get error message saying can't find the domain. When I login as local admin, it show the computer is on the domain.

Not an Administrator, just forced to play one at work. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Server is win 2003 r2, and clients are XP SP3

Did you do a System State restore or just rebuilt the domain? The computer account is probably corrupted and therefore will need to be readded to the domain. Go in AD an reset the computer account. Then rejoin the computer to the domain with the same name if you like.

I had to completely rebuild the domain, the hard drive had to be replaced. I added the computer in via active directory but still can not rejoin. Here is the error I get...

The domain name AJURS might be a NetBIOS domain name. If this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly
registered with WINS.

If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain name, then the following information can help you troubleshoot
your DNS configuration.

An error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller
for domain AJURS.

The error was: "No DNS servers configured for local system."
(error code 0x0000267C DNS_ERROR_NO_DNS_SERVERS)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.AJURS

Not running WINS just using the server for DHCP, DNS, and Domain Controller...

Microsoft best practices is to build the domain with a FQDN. Such as AJURS.COM or AJURS.Local With out the FQDN, you will run in to issues in future releases of Windows environments.

Did you reinstall DNS? Is there a AD Integrated Zone for AJURS? Make sure that there is also a AD Integrated Zone for _msdcs.AJURS.

Point your DC Ip address for DNS to the local IP of your DC/DNS Server.

Also, The DHCP client service is required for registration of DNS A record for computers with statically assigned IP addresses. Make sure this service is started.
