Server 2000 Showing Inaccurate Disk Space

I am running a 2000 server and have encountered problems with my local disk. The drive is showing the following information in windows explorer:
Used Space: 3.98 GB
Available Space: 11.3MB
Total Space: 3.99GB

This drive has 18GB of total space, but for some reason I am not seeing it, and also I am not being allowed to write to the disk because of insufficient space.

Any ideas?

I've seen this before - there's a corruption. Have you restarted? That may well cure it.

What does Windows 2000 show in Disk Management?

What size disk does Disk Management show that you have?

To access Disk Management, go to Control Panel--> Administrative Tools--> Computer Management. Under Storage, you should see Disk Management.

Thanks Dave. I went to Disk Management and its showing the one smaller 4G drive as the C, but then the remaining 14GB's are listed as unallocated. Guess I have to partition the remaining 14GBs? Is there anyway to resize my C so that it includes the total 18GB without reformatting it?

Partition Magic by Powerquest should be able to resize that partition for you. Never used it on a server, but I cannot see any any reason it won't work.

Yes, and unfortunately NO!

You would be able to do it except for the fact that I'm assuming your System Partition is your C: Drive. You cannot extend a System Partition. Had it been just a plain old partition just for data, then you would have been able to Span it.

The other reason you cannot do it is that the System Partition cannot be larger than 8GB (I might be wrong on that one, that might only apply to Windows NT 4.0)

Anyway, if you want to try it you will need to make that disk a Dynamic disk first. You can do that using Disk Management as well.

Good Luck

Partition Magic probably could do it.

I'm still not sure about the 8GB limit on System Partitions for 2000.

Does anyone know if this is still true for Windows 2000? Dave Namou, MCSE CCEA

NO the 8 gig system partition does not apply to Windows 2000, it only applies to NT 4. So you should be able to make one 18 gig partition.

Would you recommend buying Partition Magic for this or can the Disk Management utility handle all of this? Thanks for the help!

Hi,
I've similar problems. I've a 120GB hdd but was recognized as 32GB hdd in disk mgmt.
I've already updated my BIOS to the latest revision but still didn't help.
Appreciate for any inputs.
Thanks!
