My company has allowed me to teach myself networking. I have three servers using Server 2000 and want to do the following:

Configure Network Address Translation along with a VPN firewall

Configure a range of ten [inside] IP addresses along with the IP address given to me

Configure DNS and Active Directory

Regrettably, I can find no documentation on what to do first or whether the IP address goes to the server or the firewall.

The first server will have SQL and project server. I would like to connect to it through VPN. Some guidance would be appreciated greatly.

Active Directory (short list of requirements)
An NTFS partition with enough free space

An Administrator's username and password

The correct operating system version

A NIC

Properly configured TCP/IP (IP address, subnet mask and - optional - default gateway)

A network connection (to a hub or to another computer via a crossover cable)

An operational DNS server (which can be installed on the DC itself)

A Domain name that you want to use

The Windows 2000 CD media (or at least the i386 folder)

The details along with really good screen shots are available at the following link.

I didn't research all of your issues, but this appears to be a good source to look things up.
