Yesterday i had replaced server network card "HP NC3163 Fast Ethernet NIC" to "(Linksys LNE100TX(v5) Fast Ethernet Adapter #2)", then restarted the server since we 've been having problems including DNS issues, VNP connectivity problems, now we lost our other network browser, which we used to see on the server "Network places, Entire Network microsoft windows and then network would appear but nor anymore.." when I try to add the other network by either by name of the servers or ip address it says cannt find the address. What can be done to sort this out.

Thank you for help.

silly idea but did you set your IP to be static and the same as it was?

When you changed the Network card, the OS built new settings for it. You'll need to recreate all the settings in the TCP/IP stack that you had for the other card.... fixed or dynamic IP address, using or not using netbios over tcp/ip, DNS settings, advanced settings which includes WINS, DNS search orders..... You should also check the settings on the NIC itself for line speed, half/full duplex as some networks want this done manually rather than the "automatic" settings.

Start, Help. You'll be surprised what's there. A+/MCP/MCSE/MCDBA

YES, I SET SAME IP ADDRESS FOR NEW NETWORK CARD BUT IT WOULD NOT LET ME DO THAT UNTILL I CHANGED THE OLD NETWORK CARD IP ADDRESS TO DIFFERENT IP ADDRESS. I SUPPOSE YOU ARE RIGHT EVERYTHING SEEMED CHANGED AND WE SHOULD BUILD SAME TCP/IP STACK TO THE NEW NETWORK CARD. BUT HOW DO I DISPLAY THE OUR OTHER NETWORKS, DO I HAVE INSTALL OTHER PROTOCOLS SUCH NETBUIE AND NETBOIS WHATEVER, WHAT THE BEST WAY. THANKS LEBISOL AND SEASPRAY. PLEASE HELP ME HERE.

Did you unistall the old NIC before you put in the new one - if not its orphaned. A classic young players gotcha. If u can have down-time stick back the old Nic and unistall it through the gui.

If that doesn't work you've got a lot of rubbish jammed up in your registry. Need to manually remove it.

Easiest thing is to kill tcp off and reboot it will add itself.

Try:
to manually remove your tcp stack. Needless to say BEFORE you do this run your backup software and take an ntbackup of the systemstate for good luck. And in future prepare a bit before you do anything to a production server u'll have less late nights.

So you are saying remove or uninstall completely the old network card that then apply tcp/ip stack to the new network card, and that would sorted things out.

OK, I try that uninstalled vai GUI and reboot the server the see if the new network card is ok and can find the our other networks.

so it works?
btw....what does your nic have to do with DNS, VPN issues?
if the card works the problem may be somewhere else...

All the best!
