Hi all,

I built an XP Home PC for a colleague at work, and I was paid for the priviledge. There has never been a problem until now, but it is a doozy...

BSOD
STOP:c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon System Process terminated unexpectedly.

System will now shut down.

Symptoms... boots up until the log-on screen where you see the last person who logged on... this dialog stays for about 2 seconds, before it dissappears, and is replaced by the BSOD above. The system then reboots and repeats the error...

Anyone?

They're a bit naive, so possibly installed something. I have found elsewhere that this problem has happened when incompatible software has been installed. They insist they did nothing! (as usual)
I'm going to try Last Known Good, and System Restore from Safe Mode... I just wanted to know if anyone had had this exact experience before.
Thanks for the post though! ;)

We had that exact same error message in our office.. It was traced to a "Critical Update" that was installed on the machine (NT Server)..

Only fix was a complete re-install of the OS.. Even "Last Known Good Configuration" didn't work..

Good luck,
Murray

If the updated file Samlib.dll is missing, you get the following BSOD:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly
with a status 0xc0000080 (0x00000000 0x00000000).

Sounds like somehow one (or more) of his dll's were over-written? This particular file is one which affects the windows registery security hive. The file on my system is in the windows\system32 directory; 402k with a file creation date of 8/23/2001.

Hope this helps!
