Dear All,
This is serious news for anyone reading this or any other thread in this forum.

Please see the following as it will be a serious problem for Sidekick99 users
in the near future!

The problem you describe is what brought me to this site. I can't give up my SideKick 98! I've looked at alternatives but I can't find anythign that compares. If anyone can come up with a solution, I, for one, would be willing to pay a small price in dollars or goodwill - to have it. This particular problem can spell the end for SK. Please, someone??

Dear Jeb,
The problem in Jan 2006 for Sidekick98 is not fatal but it is fatal for Sidekick99.

Alas, I am so disappointed. How ironic that in such a complex and splendidly thought out program, a mere restriction on date recognition could cause its utility to diminish. If only there was a way to simply revise the calendar to go into future years.... Q: Would there be any value in my trying to track down anyone who worked on the product when it was designed to see if they can imagine how/what to revamp? Perhaps I am oversimplifying...if so, please do tell me.

Dear Jeb,
Do go ahead and try, it would be interesting to see what was required.
To paraphrase someone (or it could be I who said it)!

"The best solutions come from the obvious questions that no-one else thought to ask!"

Good luck and keep us informed please.

Jim

James, thank you so much. I will check this out.
Happy New Year,
Frank

I understand that no one's come up with a fix for the described problem. Is there a way to approach members of the Tek-Tips programmer's forum about digging into the program? Isn't the program now in the public domain?

I am not sure if the program is in the public domain or not. I think I corresponded with someone who had bought the rights to the name and/or program; I can dig that out if necessary. I am not sure if knowledgeable members of tek-tips are interested in pursuing this but someone had suggested it would be a matter of finding an algorythm somewhere in the code and changing it to extend the calendar farther out. When stated like that - sounds fairly straightforward (easy for me to say!) but I do not have a CLUE beyond that. I am interested in pursuing this if it is feasible. Any thoughts?

2nd attempt to post this msg - notified by board of a problem when I first attempted.....forgive if this shows up as a duplicate.

I am not sure SideKick is in the public domain. I think I ran across someone who said they had bought rights to name and/or program...I cand dig that info out if necessary.

I've been told problem is likely found in an algorythm somewhere in the code. If so, possible to revise it and thereby extend calendar into the future. Sounds straightforward (easy for me to say!). I'd be interested in pursuing but have ZERO technical knowledge; am not sure if there are others on this string who would know how to proceed. Any thoughts?
