Windows XP Home edition has shut my Dell 8200 Dimension down about 6-10 times to "avoid damage to the computer". The shutdown is intermitient but the last two times the error codes were ***STOP 0X0000008E(0XC0000005,0X80537345,0XB6ABBV8,0X00000000) and
0X0000007E(0XC0000005,0X80537345,0XBA957A14,0XBA957714).

A Dell service tech indicated my operating system was corrupt and I would have to wipe my hard drive clean and reinstall Windows XP and I told her I didn't want to hear that answer. After a month I almost have this new computer up to my speed.

Is their another solution?

My computer: Pentium (R) 4 cpu 1.9 GHz, 256 MB of Ram, Display Adapter 64MB NUIDIA GeForce2 MX.

Have you tryed booting it in safe mode? But it sounds like she is right...

You can repair Windows XP by starting your computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM, pressing ENTER to set up Windows XP, and then pressing R to repair the selected installation. You might be able to repair XP without losing your data. However if this a OEM version of XP check that you have the fix mentioned here first.
