Serial Terminal on Avaya Definity Activation 3

Gidday from Down under;

I have been re-assigned from an MD110 to a Definity site.

There is a dumb terminal that looks every bit like it is from the era of the serial VT340.

Our Avaya Agency thinks it is a 4410 terminal but do not know the key combinations to activate it.

- I have checked with a RS232 break out box & seems to be ready to talk.
- does anyone know the setup ie 8N1 & what the key strokes are to get it to connect.??

Morning southern hemispherian,

Sounds like a SAT terminal. From Memory to default it manually, (assuming all the physical connections are correct) power it off then hold the escape and control key the two on the far left corners of the key board. Then power it on again. You should see a screen with tabs allowing you to configure the terminal. I think that's the keys to press from memory it's definitely two keys in opposite corners of the key board.

Hey Colby;

Thanx for the advice ctl-esc definitely gives the terminal set-up, but the Avaya does not talk to it yet.

I suspect the RS232 output on the system needs config ..

Is it done by command from site admin (like in MD110 cmd = IOIFC:IODEV=,IFACE=,WPRDL=,PARITY=,STOPB= or via dip switches on the card (LIKE THE EARLY nec'S)?
It seems from the breakout box when PABX only RTS & DSR, TX RX are OK. Similarly terminal only similar signals.

Join both up thru breakout box RTS & DSR change ... terminal send data to Avaya ... no response .. is like the Avaya is not enabled.

What model of definity are we talking about? G3si, G3r or G3csi (prologix)

For the dumb terminal to work once logged in you dont have to type 4410 if you are being prompted after supplying the login and password details... if you are presented to select terminal type (VT100, 4410 513) just press enter and your ready to go.

No extra configurations to be added. In definity series all are plug and play.

Disp Syst Params Cust reports G3 Ver 12.
Disp Cap reports Mem Config G3xV12.

I have no problem accessing via IP from my desk or remote dialup from another site.

The dumb terminal in the PABX room is the problem.

There is no tangible reply from the PABX no matter what key or key combination is pressed.

The RS232 breakout box records the outgoing comms from the VT??
Also the PABX seems to be ready but no response.

Does anyone have a schematic of the connex to card level, I still suspect has been disabled either in programming or by DIP switches on the card by the outgoing encumbent.

Sounds like from your load "Disp Cap reports Mem Config G3xV12", you are now running an S-Series server. Perhaps it was an G3SI or a G3R at one point, and has since been upgraded. If that is the case, the serial SAT terminal connection will no longer work... the processor is no longer a card in the switch.
