I have a CD burning program that tells me I would better off putting my CD drives on two seperate IDEs. Can I put a CD drive and a HD on IDE 1 and same on IDE 2. Can I mix cd and HD?

You can configure the drives that way, but most people would recommend against it, as the CD-ROM drives may hinder the performance of the hard drives.

The only reason to have the two CD-ROM drives on seperate IDEs, is if you are copying from one to the other. This can still be done with the current configuration, but you may need to tell your software to copy the data to the hard drive first, before copying back to the CD-RW.

Your configuration is generally considered to be the prefered option, not ideal but the lesser of two evils so to speak.
It is also worth mentioning that with the introduction of BURNPROOF technology, drives are rarely effected by this configuration. Martin Please let members know if there advice has helped any.

I always wondered about that, and suspected it was the case . Very Helpful. thanks.
