Separating video and sound 1

Hi Forum
Is it possible using After Effects to separate an avi files audio and visual components?

To render your avi without sound, simply turn off the speaker icon on the layer in the timeline. For sound only, you can use the default 'audio only' preset from the output module pull-down in the render queue, or use the File/Export... option, or just turn the layer transparency to 0%.

Thanks but I meant that I already had a single avi file with video and audio together, is it possible to separate the audio and convert it into a wav file

i don t remember if you can do it with after effect 4.1
i think ... maybe not, because at this time i usualy used sound forge, or sometime premiere to extract wave from mpeg

but NOW, with 5.5 you can export in wave format

select the avi you want
in menu FILE ... chose EXPORT
and you will find what you need.
