Hi All,

I have a problem, probably a stupid problem but I haven't found a solution in this forum.

When I send a mail from a server, the sender is user<> instead of user@domain.com and the receiver cannot reply.

I tried several solution found in this forum but without help.
A dirty way to solve it is put user@domain.com into the /etc/passwd giving the "from:" field as

"user@domain.com"<>

but I don't want do it.

Someone have a better solution?

You must consider that I don't send directly the mail over Internet but thru another mailer (DS field is not empty).

Thanks a lot in advance.

That's a horrifying solution. Don't do that.

Couple questions.

1. What does your local-host-names file look like?
2. Do you host any other domains on this server for e-mail?

Hi mbrooks,

thanks for your reply.
The server doesn't host any other domains and this is is my conf:

local-host-name
nameserver.domain.com

domaintable, genericsdomain, mailertable, trusted-users, virtusertable are empty.

relay-domains
domain.com

genericstable
root root@domain.com

Hello,

just a new try ....

I put into genericstable:

user <space> user@hostname.domain.com

and now when I receive a mail the sender is:

user<user@hostname.domain.com>

If I delete from /etc/passwd the comment about the user the sender arrive correct as follows:

user@hostname.domain.com

The problem seems to be solved finally :)-)).
