SENDMAIL does not work if i shutdown XINETD. WHY????

Sendmail works great. But if i chose to turn off xinetd, why does it not work. The reason i want xinetd shut off is due to potential security problems. I didnt think that sendmail was dependant of xinetd.

Can someone tell me if xinetd must be running in order for sendmail to work, or is there a way around this.

ok xinetd is the Internet services daemon first of all. but besides that security is the issue you seem more worried about. leave xinetd runnning and learn about securing your server is my suggestion. here is a good starting point.

I am familiar with some of linux security. I believe its better to shut down a process if its not needed.
Everything works but pop3 and i entered a new question in this forum.
