Here's one for you guys....

2 email addresses on the same network receive mail from "the world" but will not receive from each other.

But... when a laptop is introduced into the network with old email settings (smtp / pop3)from a previous supplier but the same address (someone@somewhere.com), they can be received!

Any ideas greatly received.

Regards

What email server are you using and have you checked the two computers to make sure they are set up the same as the rest?

Thanks for the reply.

We're using Outlook express and both pcs are set up the same

Are you able to send mail to anyone outside of your network? It's clear that you can receive mail, but it's not clear to me that you are able to send any mail at all.

There is a good chance that your ISP may be blocking outgoing mail that isn't set to go through an allowed SMTP server (their own, usually). I've had this problem before because I have several offices using different ISP's but we all use the same hosted email provider. It seems like more and more ISP's are forcing us to use their SMTP server address instead of the SMTP address for our hosted email solution. I was told that this is supposed to stop spammers from using their mail servers as relays.

Instead of using settings like:
pop3.yourdomain.com
smtp.yourdomain.com

You may need to use:
pop3.yourdomain.com
smtp.ispdomain.com

That can cause problems as well because some mail servers will reject your mail because the domain used in the "From" field doesn't match the domain of the originating server. This makes your email look like spam to some mail servers.
