sending internet email via mailx

I am a rookie at this, but I am trying to send a file from my Sun box Solaris 5.8 (mailx version 5) to my work Outlook address. I don't know how to tell mailx to send off network out to the internet. I know I need to put something after this: "# "Smart" relay host (may be null)
DS" in the sendmail.cf, but what do I put? Does DS mean Domain Server? Do I need a hosts file entry too or even an nslookup entry?

My main question is what to put after the DS?
Will an outside mail server work for the DS setting?

HELP PLEASE!

You've probably got a different set up to me but on my system:

mailx joebloggs@tek-tips.com

will send outside the lan I'm connected to. If you have a connection to the internet and it's not barring you you should be able to do the same.

Can your machine resolve hostnames correctly ? ie `nslookup

http://www.cnn.com`

If that works then your machine can deliver on it's own. Make sure you've got sendmail running as a daemon, `sendmail -bd -q15m` if it isn't. In this case the DS macro can be null.

If the nslookup command bombs then you'll need to find the address of a local mail relay, your net admin or ISP should be able to help you there. Use that address in the DS line (no spaces) if sendmail.cf

I did get it to work. I needed a valid hosts file. A vendor put a bogus domain name in for the server IP and name.
