We are running PHP on a win2k server running IIS 5 and using the default SMTP service to send emails. From this server i have been able to send emails. Recently, we noticed we were being used as a relay server for other peoples email. I put in place some relay restrictions on the SMTP server, using the ip of the machine and the localhost. Since then emails from php have not been sent, and the page has been timing out with a CGI timeout error. The server is also running Coldfusion and that is able to send emails without a problem.

I have now removed the relay restrictions and this had made no difference.

Anyone got any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Hi pal.

On Windows machines I use to use "blat", a sendmail-like programme for Windows. Of course blat also needs a real SMTP server like the MS one you use. blat needs to be setup before you can use it.

I think it sould be the right solution to configure the MS SMTP to allow only certain users/passwords combinations from any IP. This sould solve your little :) problem.
