I’m having trouble sending console messages with XP to XP, I am able to connect to another box on the network just fine, then when I go to send a message it tells me (Not all recipients received the message. Check the computer names or computer may be unavailable. The computer name is correct and the system is available. Not sure what is causing the problem. Thanks in advance

Assuming you are trying to use 'net send message'

Both machines must have the messenger service running (not to be confused with windows or MSN messenger).

This service is stopped by default as a security measure. Unless you have a good firewall then you may start to get messages from the internet!

You also have to open a port on windows firewall - but I forget which one. Hopefully XP will do this for you once you start the messenger service.

After starting the service you need to re-boot for the service to find the other machine(s). For some odd reason it only "seeks" other PC's after a re-boot. Not after being started. But the order you re-boot is of no consequence as once re-booted the "seek" part of the service works all the time from then on!
