I have exchange server 5.5 sp3 running on NT4 sp 6a.
email is working internally and externally without attachments. As soon as something is attached the email will not send. I hit the send button and I get an error "the operation failed".
The problem is applicable to all type of attachment.
If I use Outlook express I can send small attachments - up to 20 Kb but not larger. The problem with incoming mail is similar - no large attachments get through.
Can anyone shed some light on this

Thanks

Daniel

Thanks for the speedy reply but alas I have checked all the limits in Exchange Administrator and they are not the problem

Thanks

Daniel

OK, this might be a lame attempt but have you checked the disk space on the Exchange server itself? I imagine if it's getting really low (< 200 Meg) you are probably experiencing other problems as well but take a look anyway.

What do your Event viewer logs say? You might find some clues in there.

I'm assuming this occurs on all the users workstations?

What email software are you using?

regards,

Dennis

I have plenty of space on the drive - about 4.5 Gb.

Daniel, I've had wierd problems a few times with particular users and have found that if I delete their account and re-create it the problem goes away. Of course if the user has lots of data it's a bit of a pain to store the data else where and put the data back in once you've rebuilt their exchange account but if it works....

Is this just on one account or all accounts?

How long has the Exchange server been up and running?

Habe you tried cleaning the mailboxes? Have you checked the limits of the emails in the IMC?

exchange has been running for a few years without this problem. All accounts have the same problem. The priv.edb expanded from around 3Gb to 10.5 Gb due to an email loop over the weekend of 5th and 6th January. This caused our drive to fill to capacity and shut down the ims. I emptied the imcdata\in\archive folder to make room and restarted the ims. Sinc then no attachments using outlook.

Daniel

Turned out to be corrupted database - priv.edb
Ran eseutil and isinteg - works now!
