My service provider (sky.com in the UK) recently changed it's email service. Prior to that my two accounts worked perfectly. I have carefully followed all the instructions given, basically just changing the SMTP and POP3 details.
When I test account settings the Network connection, Find Outgoing and Incoming server and Log On to Incoming are fine. Send Test message fails with error message "Unable to send test message. Please verify the email address field".
The email address has not changed, and Outlook is downloading my incoming just fine. I have tried every variation of upper / lower case that i can think of. Both accounts have the same result.
I can send mail by logging in to Sky's own site

Are you SURE the email address under User Information is correct? Also if they are your ISP, are you connected via their network (i.e. a known IP address)? Some won't accept O/B mail from other networks.

Possibly they now require outbound authentication. Have you tried changing the settings in the Outbound Server tab on the dialogue accessed via the More Settings button?

Most often it requires login to the POP server before sending; there is a checkbox for that option.

Having said that, I have seen a couple of cases where the test settings just won't send, whereas sending real messages works OK, so don't assume it isn't working because the test fails.

Another possibility is they may require a SSL secured connection - which is on the advanced tab in that same dialog.

Thanks for your attention. I have been through all these steps as they are detailed in the documentation on Sky's website.
They are my ISP

I have tried to send real messages - send / receive times out.

I installed Mozilla Thunderbird and tried to set up an account on that and also failed.

If I try to uninstall and reinstall Outlook is this likely to help? What files do I need to save to ensure I have all my old mail and address data

You need to contact your ISP and have them verify your server settings. Perform the test with them on the phone and make them fix the problem.
