After I run a report (in Access 2000 SP3) I use Send To from the File menu to email a report as an attachment in the Access Snapshot format.
But when I do this the attachment to the email has a XLS extension (for Excel) not (SNP for Snapshot).
When I open this attachment with Excel is it junk but if I rename with a .SNP and open with SnaphotViewer it is fine.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
John

There is no code.
After I run the report I select from the menu bar:
File > Send To > Mail Recipient (as attachment) > Snapshot Format then it pops up an email with the report as an attachment.
But the attachment has the extension of XLS not SNP.
Thanks
John

Sorry, I misread your post.

I followed the steps that you identified in your post. I received a snapshot file that opened up in the snapshot viewer when double clicked.

Not sure what the problem is on your end. What happens if you choose Microsoft Excel? Not sure how Access works in that fashion but maybe there is something in the registry that gives it the .xls enxtension?

Sorry I can't be of any further help.

If I choose Excel an xls attachement is created. When I try and open this attachment in Excel is it fine.

It may be in the registry, but I am not very good at working with the registry.

Thanks for your help
John :)

I found something in the registry that might be of help:

Start-->Run then Type Regedit

In registry editor,

Navigate down the follwing path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Access\Report Formats

Under the Snapshot Format verify that you don't have *.xls in there. My data value was this: "snp,,1,Snapshot Format (*.snp),0" without the double quotes. If you do, double click the key and change it to *.snp. Click OK. Test the functionality again if you had to change the value.

Thanks for the pointer but that Registry entry is setup exactly as your.
But I am digging into some other entries in Registry, thanks for pointing me in that direction. Now is a good time as any to dig into the Registry.
Thank you very much.

i'm having this same problem. it works fine on my pc and but on several users pcs it's attaching them as .xls instead of .snp. i'm using office xp and windows xp and the users that are having the problem have windows and office xp and office xp and windows 2000.

I am having the same problem but it only occurs when I send them with Lotus notes, if I change the mail client to outlook express it generates the snp file correctly. I read somewhere that it could have to do with the printers installed. If these are PCL printers the problem might occur.

I have a closly related question...
I set up the snapshot viewer, but it is NOT automatically opening .snp files. How do I go about setting up a file association with a plugin?
