I've created an Access database for the company I work for to record details of all the libraries on our AS400's. One of the functions that my company wanted was for an email to be sent out at the end of the month to a group of users detailing any expired libraries. Now because the company uses Lotus Notes as it's email client I've been having a few problems in getting this functionality to work. I did manage to create a procedure where the email is sent via Lotus Notes and this worked fine, but I want to format the email using HTML and Lotus Notes doesn't seem to handle this too well. So I was wondering if anybody knew of a way that I can send the email via our SMTP server? I have seen questions and replies in this forum for sending mail via Outlook, but I would need to send the email directly via the SMTP server. Any ideas??

Thanks for the idea, but the problem there is that the SMTP server is based in our Orlando, USA office whereas I'm based in the UK office - so the chances of getting some software installed onto the server would be virtually nil.

I was hoping that by somehow passing the parameters for our SMTP server I would be able to send the email via it. I have got a VB Application that does something very similar, hence why I thought the same could be done via an Access database.

HA! I just posted this as a tip!

wkendrvr - thanks for the tip, but again this involves having access to the SMTP server which, as I explained in my previous reply, I don't have.

I need to somehow use SMTP without the use of any third party software.

Umm that is what the Blat software does. You tell it the server that you want to use as SMTP and it sends via it.

Install instructions for Blat

Installing Blat
Copy the file blat.exe to your \winnt\system32 directory, or to any other directory in your path.

Run blat -install yourhost youruserid, where "yourhost" is the address of your SMTP server and "youruserid" is the default From: address.

So basically it acts like a command line emailer. If you can send mail via your corporate SMTP server, you can send mail via Blat. Again this would not be installed on the MAIL SERVER, it would be installed on the machine running your code.
