My company has a primary domain name and several secondary domains. All users have an email account under the primary domain (user@domain1.com) and several users have alias' for the secondary domains (user@domain2.com).

I need to find a way for the users who have alias' to be able to 'send as' using one of the alias e-mail addresses they have (using Outlook XP). They need to be able to switch 'on the fly' between the different alias, but primarily use the primary domain.

Is this possible without a creating separate mailbox for each alias and giving the 'Send on Behalf' right to the user?

Thanks in advance!

I'm using Outlook 2000, but I can create a new email message, go to the View menu and select From Field. This gives me a "message from" option above the "To" field, and I can select any user in the address list that I have permission to send as.

I hope that made sense...

That would work if I was trying to send as another user, but I am not. I am trying to send as one of my alias'.

For example I have my regular e-mail account of phil@mydomain.com but also receive the e-mail for webmaster@mydomain.com. How do I go about sending e-mail 'as' webmaster@mydomain.com, which is not in the Global address list, but is in the email addresses tab of the properties for my user/mailbox.

One way I have found, although it may not be great, (but it works) is to set up a pop account that looks at the exchange server with the outgoing address that you want to use. Then remove this account from the send and recieve group in outlook. When you want to send email from that address select the new account from the 'accounts' tap on the new email.

As I say, not a very tidy way, but it seems to work quite well.

Thanks Tomasykes, that works great for my purposes! One star for you!
