Hello,
my first post here on a very informative website.
I have recently come across an interesting problem.
Under my own broadband ISP (Hong Kong based, netvigator.com), I can send email via a different email addres from the ISP (i.. I am using my university email address as opposed to @nevtigator.com), as long as I use the ISP smtp server - i.e. smtp.netvigator.com
My girlfriend cannot however, do this under another ISP (hutchcity.com, also HK based) - the settings are correct as required. Now I have tracked the problem regarding secondary email accounts and servers to a possible Port 25 (correct me if I am wrong). However, I find that this only corresponds to the use of smtp servers other than the ISP based server. I have found on the following site:
that some ISPs do not allow any other email other than their domain based email addresses to be sent.
I would like any confirmation that this is possible, how it is done (i.e. is there another port that closes?) and how to get around the problem - i.e can I request the ISP to allow specific email adresse be used.
Thanks in advance.
Marq
