Semaphore timeout period has expired????

I am trying to erase a tape, I am getting so far and the error above appears "Semaphore timout period has expired"..If anyone know what this means please let me know.

I've had the same problem occur during backups. I'm not 100% positive, but I think it has to do with the SCSI bus timing out...
