I started selling software in 2005. I had one person purchase my software for $250.

Are they going to send a 1099 form in the mail to me?

Or is that only for purchases over $600?

Also, if they don't send a 1099, does that mean I don't have to claim it on my taxes?

Thanks

It should be on your taxes whether or not they send you a 1099. There is a form for profit and loss from a business... you could read the instructions on it to see if it is right for you.

I don't know what you mean. This is very confusing to me.

:)

It's unlikely they would send you a 1099, unless this sale was part of a larger contract.

Regardless of that, this is a sales transaction and on the appropriate tax form, there will be a box for sales revenues, and the amount of this sale should be reflected in that box.

Good Luck

Your accountant should help you with this.

But for self-employed income, it generally gets reported on Schedule C.

No you wont get a 1099 for this. Its reporting as indicated above. Its good you had this revenue from your company because otherwise you could claim no expenses-deductions for the company. I believe the magic number is $250 in sales in order to claim any expenses, good price :)
