Hi,

I have been learning ASP.NET on and off for a while now and I have created a pretty cool little application in my spare time. I think people might actually buy it if I decide I am going to sell it.

All I used to make it was Visual Web Developer and SQL Express 2005/2008 which are both free.

My question is, if I want to legitimately sell this am I right to assume I will need to pay some licensing fees to microsoft, even if I don't expect any of my customers to ever need to upgrade beyond SQL Express?

I have searched a lot on google and the only conclusive evidence I found was that my customers will need to pay for IIS hosting and the SQL license. Supposedly IIS hosting should only be run on Windows Server machines, and that's where MS gets ya. But I am pretty sure you can do this on Windows XP, Vista and Win 7, so if I go the cheaper route and install SQL Express and IIS on a non-server machine, will this all be legitimate/legal without any fees?

Thanks for any advice.

really? yeah I guess the next step is to ask a lawyer, but i was kind of hoping someone might be able to at least lead me in the right direction or point me to some documentation on this.

It's not like I have developed anything ground breaking, I just have some business contacts that would appreciate what I have done.

I may even give it away for free, but I know someone knows the legalities behind ASP on here right? Tek-Tips is always my go to for these kinds of things, everyone on here is so helpful.
