Having a problem with selecting multiple files using the Ctrl key. After choosing a few files, it automatically makes copies of those files to the same directory, sometimes multiple copies of them. I ended up with a directory with about 7 copies of the files I had selected to copy elsewhere. Any help would be useful.

Go to the 'Edit' menu, and choose 'Select All'. Then just un-select everything you don't want, using the Ctrl key. The remaining files should be still high lighted, and then you'll be able to move them.

I have checked the mouse properties, but there is nowhere to indicate Select vs Copy. I also checked the link and it said to make sure click lock was not checked. Mine is not. still have a problem though.

It might be that you are mis-treating your mouse. Take it a bit slower and make sure you are not "dragging" a file while holding down the Ctrl button. Don't click until arrow is in centre of file.

To see what I mean hold the Ctrl down on a selected file and "drag" it left or right and release it.

did you check the mouse? meybe it is out of order itself.
once, my pal thought his computer is infected with a virus because suddenly a few windows was appearing and a lot o things was selected, when he changed the mouse everything came to normal state.
does this problem occur when you copy and paste using your keyboard?

This is a brand new computer, just got it set up last Thursday. Mouse is brand new MS optical mouse. No, not mistreating or dragging.

Make sure that you have the correct mouse drivers. If it's a Microsoft Mouse, then download the lastest version of Inteli Mouse. If you have access to another pc, try the mouse there as well. If it still acts up, it's most likely the mouse.
