So here I am, happily adding a new user to our NW 5.1, GW 5.5 system. Am in NWAdmin32 as usual, create the NW logon first, then the GW, usual identical user id/pw blah-blah-blah. Here's where it gets weird. I open my GW client, to send up an appointment, and no entry in the Novell address book. I also tried logging in as the user and user ID lets me log on hunky-dory. Yet, when I try to open GW, it says it object doesn't exits!

So, I got back into NWAdmin32 and checked the Post_office object itself. When you look in the membership, there's the user name, as pretty as you please.

This is a new oddity as I created a user 3rd week December and all was well. And I just checked, and that user is still in the my GW client address book.

Anybody gotta clue?

A few things come to mind:

1. The account may not be successfully created. When you view the prioreties of the account you shoudl see a FID - if there isn't one, nuke the GW account and re-create it.

2. The visibility of the account could be set to something lower than system. This isn't really likely, but it may explain part of what you're seeing.

When was the last time you did a top-down rebuild on your GroupWise system? You might try doing a top-down rebuild and see if that fixes your problem.

First off, thanks for the advice, you guys sent on the right track.

Well, did get it figured out and I have a bit of a red face. It seems the problem was the MTA wasn't able to start. And the if the MTA doesn't start, NDS and GW can't sync. And what was keeping the MTA from starting you ask? I had changed it's archive folder to one it didn't like. When I changed it back to the original, it started up like the proverbial charm. Lo and behold, the NDS and GW could sync again.

But hey, it could have been something horrible on the network's part rather than something doofus on my part.
