I'm having trouble assigning security to folders on a new server I have just implemented.

Everything for admin is fine, but as soon as I create a file share, users can browse but cannot do anything else.

What I have done:
user added to global group
global group added to folder security
security for group changed to anything from list to full access
applied to all folders and propogated to all child entries.

result: no change.

I've even tried adding the users directly to the folders with no result other than more grey hairs, and of those, half have fallen out!

any clues folks?

Much appreciated

Pete

Check your share permissions, by default when you create a new share in 2003 in is very restrictive. The most restrictive setting between share permission and security ultimately is applied.

Hope that helps.
