I am in the process of switching all of the databases to 2010. ONe of the items I read was that 2010 does not like .mdw's so I created a security table that assigns the users correct security levels. This seems to work fine but an unexpected glitch appeared -- multiple users cannot access the database now. It is on the shared drive but when one person has it open, the next person clicks on the icon and it doesn't open teh database. I checked that the default open mode was set to shared with record level locks checked but past that, i'm not sure what to check next.

Make sure all the users have CHANGE permission to the FOLDER that the Access database is in.
Otherwise some users cannot create / edit the .ldb file

Yes they all have full rights to the folder. do I need to check something at the table level like I did with the default open mode (shared) and record level locks checked ?

Sorry hit wrong button. I wanted to say that this is a split database but that both frontend and backend are on the same share drive (if that makes a difference)

If you have an ACCDB file, Access security is not supported so the only other thing I can think of is something in how you secured it yourself is causing problems.

I had same problem. Solved it by creating an install program (in Access) they creates the desktop shortcut. The shortcut must contain the full path to Access (MSACCESS.EXE) and the path to the mde file.

Example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\MSACCESS.EXE" \\servername\folder$\Test.mde
