Anyone out there taking/took the Security+ Certification (probably the only Cert in the world that glister has not achieved... ;-) )?

I'm planning to write it shortly but I'd appreciate getting in touch with someone I can bounce questions off.

Not yest but I've done some research on it. There are about a half dozen security certs out there. The Security + seems to be on the low end, based in input from industry "pundits". At the same time any security person will tell you a security cert is broad in focus and shallow in depth. Security + seems to fit that exactly. The difference is some of the other certs require 5 or more years in a security related field before they'll let you take the test.

The CISSP is likely the best known and hardest to obtain. Their application standards are stringent, and costly. If memory serves correclty, there is a manditory bootcamp/study group before you are eligable to take the exam.

Their point is they don't want to water down their cert, and have "paper CISSPs"

Thanks for the CISSP link! I've never heard of that Certification.

I don't see Security+ Certification as making me a security expert and I can't see the point in CISSP if your job is to administer a typical computer network. I'd rather get my MCSE than CISSP (unless I expected to work in the military, which I don't).

Thanks for your input.

I would still suggest the Security+, as it is also vendor neutral, and will put you above other applicants, assuming you are job hunting, who don't have the cert.

I will get my Sec+ shortly. Probably write it next week.
