it is not very often i get a plesent supprise. i had been hearing about secure platform i.e. i had heared the name but never followed it up to investigate what it was. i had just assumed it was a hardware device like the Nokia IP line.
so after i rebooted my pc with a new NG with AI cd in the drive found it was a bootable cd and wanted to do an install i decided to put it into a test machine (pc). ok so i was plesently supprised to find secure platforn is a basic OS specificly for CP - FW1
ok i feel a little dumb (i realy should have known this) but just thourght i would share to anyone else out there who is looking to do an install and wondering what os to use.

Question - anyone have any words of advice on this. i.e. licence issues (is SP free) are there any problems, deap dark pits i shoud know about. or just statement to say i am completely wrong (i dont want to be giving anyone wrong advice)

Hey Piloria,

did you found anything yet.

I have a similar question.
If you bought a checkpoint secure plaftorm and you are given a key to download it and install it. (the say it is ip-locked) do you have to install it on the pc on wich you downloaded it. (windows + secure platform = bullshit??)

and is there a limit for the number of times you can install the firewall module? i want to pc's with the fw-module. is that limited to 1 per package?

i now my 2end question cancels the first but i hope you or someone els can help

Hi,

I think what they mean here is that the license is only compatible with one IP address. This is the address that you first registered the license with.

You should be able to install it as many times as you wish. You will just need to use the same IP address on all PC for that licese.

What is the purpose of installing on multiple PCs?

If your looking to have a backup of the firewall, I created a ghost copy of mine and it works well.

if you are looking to use it as backup then i assume you will be using the same IP address = same license

Hi All,

I have done a few NG-FP3 and a couple of NG-AI securePlatform installations as the Remote enforcement modules.

Secureplatform as an OS does is free (as I guess) we'd require the license for the FW-1 Module.. Its pretty stable

Even upgrading from Fp3 to AI was smooth..

When talking backups. You don’t have to maintain a spare PC or even a ghost image when it is just an enforcement module and if you manage your licenses centrally (you may need to keep backups only if Management(Smart Server) that too we can use the backup options available in CP).

All you need to do in an event of failure, is to install a fresh station, establish the SIC and then push license from Smart Update and then the policy from the SmartCentre Dashboard.. This makes the remote work as before..
