ok, dont beat me up on this one. I have been experimenting with asterisks the freeware "pbx". I would like to get a decent server and put asterisks on it, and link it to my option via a pri or two, use it for conferencing and maybe some ip phones, just to mess around. I never messed with multi-system setups, so how would someone on the asterisks pbx dial out like its a meridian extension, as well as how would i set up the meridian to send particular extensions and what not to the remote system? don't have to be specific, i just want to know some basics so i can goof, and teach myself.

Thanks!

if you want to build a extension which is in another switch, just define a RLB in LD 86 and enter the route number to your asterisk as Entry 0. then go to LD 87 and define your asterisk extension as DSC and point it to your new built RLB.

i have no idea what you have to program in the asterisk system to insert a "DSC" to your Nortel PBX because i am not familiar with this system.

best regards from switzerland,
Mike

thats good, i just want ideas, the way i have always learned is "do" so i want general "rules" on how you guys normally do things so i can try with this free jobbie. Another question the above is still open for other comments. But annother question is, say i whack call pilot and want to use the Asterisk server as my primary voice mail, can the MWI on the nortel phones be lit from a different VM system linked via PRI?

You are going to need to do Q.Sig and configure the QMWI on the DCH for that to work.

If the * sends a compliant QMWI message, the CS 1000 will happily respond and lamp the station properly.
