i wanna use a second processor it runs in w2000 server, Do i need change the configuration or make a modificate the kernel ..or what?

Not exactly sure on W2K. On NT 4 you have to update to a multi-processor kernel, but the Compaq SSD will do that for you.
Basically I'd say just put the CPU in then see if W2K sees it. If it doesn't then you'll probably have to use the Compaq SSD to update the HAL etc. (Make sure it pulls updated files from your current service pack, NOT original install files.)

I am trying to add 2nd processor to compaq 1600
and am getting this error

215- Nonfunctioning Voltage Regulator Module for Processor 2...

Do I need to add a VRM? Or is this a jumper setting?

any insight to this error ewould be helpful?

Thanks and cheers!

Hi mucktoad,

Yes you need a VRM module. Not too hard to get hold of. Just look at the other one to get the part number and do a search on goggle. Presume you just bought the CPU on its own rather than the Compaq (ie expensive) upgrade kit?

You might also want to check that the stepping levels of the CPU's match. If they are out more than one step you can get problems.

On the ML530s, most stepping issues can be resolved by updating to the current BIOS revision.

And yes, you do need to add a VRM :)

Yes Joel you need to make changes to your kernel. Go to the FAQ Section for this Forum and look for my article about the Windows 2000 dual processor upgrade.

Follow that to the teeth and you should be oK.
