Hi all, I'm pretty positive that my problem isn't spyrware / adware / malware trelated which is why I'ev posted it here instead.
I've run software such as Adaware, Spybot, HijackThis, Windows Defender and they all come back clean. I'm also running Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i with th anti spyware plugin.

If I'm in work (laptop) and mistype a url, ergewiveh.couk for example, I get a
"The requested URL could not be retrieved" page
What I suprise I hear you say!
However, when I'm at home, if I type the same url, my brower redirects me to searchportal.information.com

I have checked the registry for this value, nothing!
I have tried uncheckingt he "automaticall detect settings" in the Lan Settings options. Still no joy.

I'm struggling here! help!

Any help GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks

Paul

Hi tlcscousin, DNS isn't set statically, and yes when I'm at home I hook up to a wireless router.
But going back to what I said earlier, I don't think it;s the ISPs DNS as it works fine from other pc's at home.
BCastner, I've added the site to the restricted sites but it still loads it!

I will try smitrem tonight when I get back to the hotel (on a course this week) and let you know.

Thanks again

well smitrem didn't do the trick either.

Next thing to try?

Cheers for the suggestions, they're all things I hadn't thought / heard of.

I'VE GOT IT!!!

I can't believe this.
Because in work (remember this is a company laptop), we use serveral different internal domains, I have a added them into the "append these dns suffixes" box in the tcpip properties.
The first domain in the list has been registered as a real TLD and goes to a page which contains this searchportal stuff.
So if I was typing wefcwwewdfw.couk it was actually trying to resolve eroergerg.couk.domain.com, and ending up there.
this seems to have solved the problem anyway, I will return if it doesn't!!

Thanks to everyone who tried to get to the bottom of this, you've been great

Paul
