If you have XP then it's an option when you use Ctrl+F (Find) - one of the dropdowns allows you to choose between worksheet and workbook. If not then it's code I'm afraid

which dropdown ? As I said - if you have XP, then the 1st dropdown (Within allows you to search the workbook. If you don't have this option, the only way to do it is via code

can't comment on '97 but in XP, it'll only find the cell using that method if the sheet that contains the search item is the active sheet in the group of sheets

that method works in Excel 2000, so I wonder why it doesn't do it XP! M1cros8ft developing products with less functionality than previous versions??? Never.
Glenn - that'll be because it's a standard feature in the Find functionality of XP. To be fair, it sounds like they've listened and added it to official functionality rather than keeping it as a workaround.....

Yeah - also, in code, there is no difference - there's no extra option for searching the workbook - if you record finding something with the Within:Workbook selected, all you get is
Sheets(x).activate
cells.find etc etc etc
which won't work when you play it back as you don't know which sheet the data is on beforehand.
