All,
I am running DB2 ESE 8.1 on Linux as a server and the same thing on Windows XP as a client. I also have the following setting:

DAS cfg on the server: DISCOVER = SEARCH
DBM cfg on the server: DISCOVER = SEARCH
DISCOVER_INST = ENABLE

DBM cfg on the client: DISCOVER = SEARCH
DISCOVER_INST = ENABLE

When using Configuration Assistant from XP, I can do Known Discovery (the "Known Systems" function). That means DAS is working. But when using the Search Discovery, i.e., "Other systems(Search the network)" function, it returns nothing. No DB2 system is found.
I wonder what I have missed. Please advise.
Thanks.

Did you make sure DAS is running on the server[linux]?
On the linux box, to make sure DAS is running do a :
dbadmin start
If it is already running it will say "The DB2 Administration Server is already active." otherwise it will start it.

DAS is up and running, that's for sure. If DAS is not running, Known Discovery doesn't work. Thanks.

Search Discovery - returns instance/databases on each machine on the local network[LAN].

Is the Linux server on the same LAN as the windows box?

Most likely not. I think this is the problem.
Thank you for the hint.
